7 tips for getting the most out of your engagement session

Imagine this, you show up to your engagement session and you,

1. Don’t know what an engagement session is and why it’s done.

2. You feel awkward and unprepared which might also cause you to feel not as confident about this experience.

We want to avoid those two things. Actually, we want to avoid anything that will not help you to get the most out of this positive experience! In this post, you’ll learn what an engagement session is and seven tips that will help you prepare for your engagement session. We want you to show up to your session feeling like your best self, happy, and confident!

What is an engagement session?

An engagement session is a portrait session of you and your future spouse. These sessions are sometimes done for Save the Date cards, to be displayed at your wedding reception, for your wedding website, or all of the above.

We like to think of it as a wonderful opportunity to have photos taken of you two together during this time. Your engagement period is a special time in your relationship that is so sweet. It’s a lovely way to commemorate this time and capture it by having pictures of you both together. This is also a good time to get to know your wedding photographer.

7 Tips for Engagement Sessions

1 – This is a good time to have your ring cleaned so it’s nice and sparkly for photos.

2 – If you will be having a make-up artist or hair stylist for your wedding day, now is a good time to have a hair and make-up trial done.

3 – Share a blog post with your fiance so he feels included in the process and knows what to expect.

4 – Be sure to pick outfits that you’re comfortable in. Try on your outfits prior to your session and remember to bring a bag to put your keys, phone, water, and clothes in.

5 – Do you like your hair swooped to a certain side or all the way to the back? Any personal preferences that you might have in reference to how you like to see yourself in pictures is important to communicate with your photographer so they will know what to look out for in your photos.

6 – Please, please, please be on time for your engagement session. We want you to have the best lighting for your photos, and to get the most out of this experience.

7 – Relax, have fun, and trust your photographer.
